Aston University student, Samuel Wilson, has won the National award for Job Shop Student Employee of the Year, by the National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES).
The Student Employee of the Year Awards aim to recognise and promote the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who combine part-time work with their study commitments. There are four categories a student can be entered into: International Student Employee of the Year; On Campus Student Employee of the Year; Off Campus Student Employee of the Year and Job Shop Student Employee of the Year. It has been coordinated on an annual basis by NASES since 2002 and has grown year on year.
Samuel Wilson is a second year International Business and Spanish student at Aston University, who works part-time in the Students’ JobShop at Aston Students’ Guild. The JobShop Manager, Cathy Laird, entered Samuel for the award and said: “Samuel Wilson was an outstanding Students’ JobShop marketing assistant who over preformed and was a tremendous success.
“Sam’s contribution to the JobShop’s successful start of the year was incredible securing 202 vacancies which was an outstanding figure, smashing all previous years! His greatest asset was his entrepreneurial skills, creativity and his genuine passion for promoting students as an untapped innovative work force.”
Samuel won the Institutional and Regional heats before finally walking away with the prestigious National Award. Samuel credited the Aston Students’ JobShop, describing it as “a fantastic resource when looking for a part time job and it helped me support myself financially whilst at Aston. The combination of an approachable team, easily-accessible resources and a first-class service really is second to none."
As a National Category Winner, Samuel was automatically entered for the overall Student Employee of the year Award where he successfully achieved the exceptional runner title beating over 400 nominations from 55 institutions.
