A week of daytime and evening activities to help students from abroad settle into life at Aston. 15th-21st September.

Saturday 15th September – Moving In/Meet & Greet/Supermarket Trips
Airport Meet & Greet (8am – 10pm)
Supermarket (Asda) trips (afternoon)
Those of you who have registered for the Meet & Greet service will be picked up from Birmingham International Airport by a group of our fantastic Aston Aunties. There are no activities planned for the day as you will be busy moving in, unpacking and stocking up - we will be running trips to a nearby supermarket (Asda) for you to pick up the essential food, bedding and toiletries. Spend the rest of your time exploring, chatting to the other new arrivals and making yourself at home! If you feel a bit lost, there will always be some friendly Aunties at the International Helpdesk – come and challenge us to a game of table football!

We will also be offering trips to IKEA for those of you who want to make your new home a bit more homely. Those of you who have registered for the Meet & Greet service will be picked up from Birmingham International Airport by a group of our fantastic Aston Aunties. Today is the start of our City & Campus Tours! Our Aston Aunties will take you on a walking tour of Birmingham City Centre, showing you all the important places, such as banks, Post Office and shops that you need to know. Meet at the Union steps at 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm or 3pm to take part and start discovering Birmingham. We will also still be running trips to a nearby supermarket (Asda) for you to pick up the essential food, bedding and toiletries. Spend the rest of your time exploring, chatting to the other new arrivals and making yourself at home! If you feel a bit lost, there will always be some friendly Aunties at the International Helpdesk – come and challenge us to a game of table football!

Today is dedicated to you learning more about your new city, and learning to find your way around it! Our City & Campus Tours will be running again today, leaving at 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm from the Union steps. Come along for a walking tour of Birmingham, led by our very knowledgeable Aunties! As well as this we will be running various trips, both walking and by minibus, to some of the local places of worship. Please come along to the International helpdesk to express your interest and find out more! If you still haven’t stocked up on all the essentials, we will still be running trips to a nearby supermarket (Asda), or if market stalls are more your thing we will be walking to the nearby Birmingham Rag Market today. This market comprises an open air fruit and vegetable market, an indoor meat and fish market and a huge indoor market selling everything from kitchen utensils to fancy dress costumes!
Wednesday 19th September – Sports Taster Sessions/City Centre & Campus Scavenger Hunt/Trips to Places of Worship

It’s sports day!! Today is your chance to see and experience some of the sports that we have on offer here at Aston. Whether you are interested in football or netball, rugby or basketball Aston has plenty of opportunities to play sport, and you will be able to sample some of the sports today. For those of you who prefer to walk rather than run, or to use your powers of deduction rather than your skill on the sports pitch we also have the City Centre & Campus Scavenger Hunt! This is a chance for you to see whether you have learnt your way around the city centre and answer some fun questions to learn more. Prizes for the best team to complete the Scavenger Hunt will be awarded on Friday night. As well as this we will still be running various trips, both walking and by minibus, to some of the local places of worship. Please come along to the International helpdesk to express your interest and find out more!
Thursday 20th September – Enrolment
There is nothing planned for today as you will all be busy enrolling and attending various important talks. If you have some spare time, feel free to come along to the International Helpdesk where there will be plenty of Aunties to chat to or challenge to a game of Air Hockey!
Friday 21st September – Cadbury World/Laser Station

Today we have two great trips planned for you! The first one is to Cadbury World for all you chocoholics, you can explore the factory, buy chocolate and other sweet goodies from the shop and perhaps even make and sample your own chocolate. This is not to be missed! The second trip is one for you competitive types – a trip to Laser Station where you can team up with your new found friends to beat the others in a game of laser tag. Both of these trips have limited space so please make sure you come along to the International Helpdesk as soon as possible to book your place!
Saturday 22nd September – Alton Towers/Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick

Today we have another two great trips planned for you! For those of you who love an adrenaline rush, rollercoasters and log flumes we are running a trip to Alton Towers, a great theme park not too far from Birmingham. Tickets cost £25 and are available from the International Helpdesk. They will sell out fast, so buy yours quickly! And for those of you who are more into exploring new places and absorbing some culture, why not come along to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare and Warwick with its famous castle? Two fantastic trips rolled into one! Come along and book your place at the International Helpdesk soon!

Saturday 15th September – Speed Meet & Greet with Free Pizza @ Aston Students’ Guild 6pm – 11pm
We know you don’t want to cook on your first night, so come along to the International Helpdesk at 6pm and we’ll all head over to the Students’ Guild for some free pizza! As well as this we will have a “Speed Meet & Greet” where you will have 2 minutes to talk to one person, before a bell sounds and you have to move onto the next person – this ensures you can meet the maximum number of people in the minimum amount of time! When this is finished you will of course have the chance to find some of the people you spoke to and have a longer conversation.
Sunday 16th September – Barbeque and Games night @ Aston Students’ Guild 6pm – 11pm
We’ve got some more food for you tonight – a delicious barbeque cooked for you by our very own B4|Bar staff! Prices from only £2. As well as the barbeque we will have plenty of games for you to try your hand at – Wii sports, MarioKart and giant Jenga to name just a few! Come along and challenge some of your new found friends.
Monday 17th September – Bowling @ Bowlplex 5pm – 10pm
How good at bowling are you?? This event is free, but very popular – make sure you head down to the International Helpdesk from 5pm to secure your place! B4|Bar will also be open for those of you who don’t want to go bowling.
Tuesday 18th September – Meal @ Jimmy Spices Restaurant followed by party at Vodka Revolutions 6pm – late
Can’t decide what your favourite dish is? It doesn’t matter! At Jimmy Spices the buffet has everything from Chinese to Indian and everything in between. Head down to the International Helpdesk from 5pm and we will start walking over to the restaurant which is on Broad Street. The meal will only cost you £10 each, a bargain! After we have all eaten as much as we can, for those of you who aren’t ready to go home yet, we will head over to Vodka Revolutions bar where we have hired out the top floor just for you! Age ID will be required.
Wednesday 19th September – International Pub Quiz with buffet @ Aston Students’ Guild 6pm – late
3pm – 5pm drop-in @Selfridges
Think you’re pretty smart? Come along and test your general knowledge at our International Pub Quiz! Get into teams of 6 with some of your fellow new students and put your brains to work! We’ll have some great prizes for the winners and some delicious buffet food to keep your concentration levels up.
Thursday 20th September – World Music Night and Barbeque @ Aston Students’ Guild 7pm – late
Fancy hearing some great music from around the world as well as some of your favourite party tunes? Come along to B4|Bar at Aston Students’ Guild and dance the night away with us! We will also have another delicious barbeque outside – well, you need to keep your strength up for dancing after all!
Friday 21st September – Astons’ Got Talent! @ Aston Students’ Guild 7pm – late
Have you got a fabulous talent? Can you breakdance? Beatbox? Do magic tricks? Juggle? Whistle like a bird? Whatever your talent is make sure you sign up for Astons’ Got Talent and come and show us your skills! It’s free for everyone, so if you would rather just watch, come and sit in the audience and cheer everyone along to decide the winner of Astons’ Got Talent 2012!! We have some fantastic prizes, and the winners of the scavenger hunt will also be announced tonight. We will also have a buffet for you, free of charge!
