Current Vacancies Summer Lets Info for Residents
Situated only ten minutes walk from the University, Aston Brook Green is an unique student housing project developed some 30 years ago by the Guild in partnership with a local housing association. A pocket of 52 Victorian terraced houses were modernised and converted to 61 flats. The project comprises, thirty-three 3 person flats, eight 4 person flats and twenty self-contained one bedroom flats. The 1 bedroom flats can accommodate couples without children or single parents with one child up to six years of age (parent will need to provide a bed/cot for the child).
The flats were converted and furnished specifically to meet the requirements of students. The only items that students need to supply are cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and bed linen. All of the flats are fitted with gas fired central heating with residents having complete control over when their heating is on.
The site has a token operated launderette with tokens available from the Guild Finance Office. There is no shortage of parking on the streets surrounding the site. Aston Brook Green is well illuminated, covered by CCTV and is landscaped with trees and large grassed areas.
Aston Brook Green has its own wireless network with internet access. Access to the network is FREE to all residents. To access the network all you need to do is register with the Housing Manager. If your computer is not wireless ready you will need to purchase a USB device and these are available from the computer shop on the 4th floor of the Main Building for about £15.00. If you have any questions about the use of this facility, please contact the Housing Manager.
In the 2010/2011 academic year the weekly rent for properties is:
Summer Vacation October onwards
1 Bed £70.00 £70.00
3 Bed
Full Refurb £35.00 £47.00
Mostly Refurb £33.50 £45.50
4 Bed £35.00 £47.00
All residents are responsible for the payment of their own gas, electricity and telephone bills. The day to day management of the project (allocations, collection of rent, etc.) is carried out by the Guild with residents reporting any repairs directly to the Housing Association. Residents are responsible for cleaning their own houses which means that there is no disturbance from cleaners first thing in the morning!
Aston Brook Green provides the relative freedom of living in private rented property but with the security that the Guild is effectively the landlord. There are Deputy Wardens resident on the site who cover for the Housing Manager in the event of an emergency outside office hours.
Aston Brook Green has proved to be a very popular place for students to live. Contrary to popular belief you do not have to be involved in the Guild, a member of an Athletic Union Club or Society to be allocated a place - we actively welcome applications from all Aston students.

Applications for the 3 and 4 person flats are preferred in groups of three or four (please staple your application forms together). Your tenancy will commence 20th June 2010 (although you will be able to collect your keys on Saturday 19th June 2010). Rent is payable for the whole period although during the summer vacation a reduced rent (3 and 4 person flats only) is charged. You do not have to stay there during the holiday and you may sub-let your flat/room during that time. This has been done successfully by many previous residents and advice on this matter may be obtained from the Housing Manager or the Students’ Advice Centre.
If you require further information please contact Malcolm Lawrie, the Housing Manager, in Room 316 (Guild, 3rd floor), the Students’ Advice Centre (Guild, 1st floor), or why not ask someone who already lives down there?
