► Tier 1 Post Study Work - applying in the UK
Tier 1 of the Points Based Immigration System is for highly skilled migrants.
You do not need either a sponsor or a job before you apply.
Post-Study Work (PSW) sub category of Tier 1
Post-Study Work allows international students graduating from UK universities to work for no more than 2 years.
Points
To apply for PSW you need 95 points
20 points for a UK bachelor’s degree or a UK Master's degree or a UK PhD degree
20 points for having studied in the UK at Aston University,
20 points for studying with any sort of visa which did not prohibit you from studying; for instance having a student visa is fine.
15 points for applying within 12 months of obtaining your qualification.
This is the date on which you are notified in writing by your exam board that your qualification has been awarded. This includes electronic notification on the University’s web site e.g. MAP. It is NOT the date of your graduation ceremony.
10 points for English language which you will be awarded automatically once you have 75 points as above
10 points for having at least £800 in your bank account for every moment of every day of the last 3 months before applying for PSW. Your bank statements must not be more than one month old on the date you apply for PSW.
Check your student visa expiry date and the date you will receive your exam results
You must have a valid student visa on the date you get your results if you want to switch from holding a student visa to a PSW visa within the UK. If you have to resit exams or you have late / resubmitted coursework, you are likely to need to extend your student visa because your course end date will change. You must submit your visa extension application before your revised course end date. Do not wait until after you have retaken exams or submitted the coursework as it will be too late.
Cost
It costs *£500 to submit an application by post and *£700 to apply in person. * From 6 April 2010 this will rise to £550 for postal applicants and £800 for in person applicants.
